Who participates?
All fourth and fifth grade students.
What is it?
A Geography Bee competition organized by National Geographic, similar to a spelling bee, that motivates students to learn about the world and how it works. Winners of the School Bee will take an online test that could qualify them for the state geography bee.
Where will it take place?
The preliminary rounds will take place in the classroom. They can be administered orally so that it is like the school wide competition, or in written form. The preliminary rounds will determine who competes in the school GeoBee. The two highest scores in each fourth and fifth grade homeroom will be invited to compete in the school GeoBee.
When will it take place?
Preliminary rounds will take place before January 24, 2020. The final competition will be held on January 31, 2020 at 1:30PM in the gymnasium. It will last approximately 45 minutes. Third fourth and fifth grade classes will be invited.
The National Geographic Geography Bee is designed to inspire and reward students' curiosity about the world.
How does it work?
Fourth and Fifth grade teachers conduct preliminary rounds with their homeroom students. The two students with the greatest score will be invited to compete during the final rounds with the winners of the preliminary rounds from each of the other fourth and fifth grade classes. The final round will be like the oral preliminary rounds except there will be eliminations. The one student who is left after everyone else has been eliminated will take an online test that may qualify them to represent Hampton at the State Geo Bee.
